The Citrus CRB of RARe's Plant pillar is partnering the Château de Compiègne in experiments to adapt its citrus collections.

The CRB Citrus is based at the INRAE center in Corsica, and houses one of the world's finest citrus collections at San Giuliano. This INRAE-Cirad collection is certified Centre de Ressources Biologiques (CRB) ISO9001 and includes over 1,100 varieties. This partnership will enable the exchange of scientific knowledge on citrus fruit and the implementation of experiments in the context of adaptation to climate change.

A selection of citrus fruits proposed by INRAE-Cirad researchers from the AGAP Corse unit and adapted to the Compiègne climate could be installed for field trials in the Jardin Fleuriste on the Château de Compiègne estate. INRAE researchers will then be able to benefit from feedback from the château's teams.

The team managing this collection has expertise in citrus cultivation and genetic and phenotypic characterization: it is the reference station for the dissemination and knowledge of citrus varieties.

In addition to its scientific research mission, it aims to disseminate its knowledge and help structures wishing to develop a production orchard or collection. As part of its mission to promote and disseminate its citrus collections, INRAE is looking to install specimens in different conservation locations, thus forming a network of climatic stations. "Compiègne's geographical position makes it possible to set up experiments on the acclimatization/adaptation of citrus fruits in areas with a more restrictive climate than that of the Mediterranean basin", explains André Torre, President of the center.

In addition to scientific exchanges, the partnership also includes scientific and cultural outreach activities at the château, such as exhibitions and lectures by INRAE-Cirad scientists.
